Save the trees at UVA

Many thanks to Alan Mawyer for telling me about this effort.

Please consider signing this change.org petition to save century-old trees on the University of Virginia campus.

Lea Lane, one of the signers, posted the following remarks on the petition page:

Jefferson once wrote, “Shade is our Elysium.” He believed that enduring trees like the magnolias beside the Rotunda were a unique and essential aspect of the American landscape. In the largely deforested Europe, trees and forests were the private domains of noblemen and kings. Here at UVA, they are shared with visitors from around the world.…Their removal is unjustifiable.
